The Godfather

Synopsis

The story follows the Corleone family, one of the most powerful mafia families in America, led by Don Vito Corleone. After Vito is nearly killed in an assassination attempt, his youngest son Michael—who initially wants to live a normal, non-criminal life—is slowly pulled into the family business.

As rival mafia families try to take advantage of Vito’s weakness, violence erupts across New York. Michael is forced to protect his family and eventually takes revenge by killing the men responsible for the attack on his father.

To escape retaliation, Michael hides in Sicily, but tragedy continues to follow the Corleones, including the death of his brother Sonny. When Vito eventually dies, Michael returns and officially takes control of the family.

Over time, Michael becomes a cold and strategic leader, expanding the Corleone empire while eliminating all rivals through carefully planned assassinations. Even personal relationships break down as his wife Kay realizes he has become deeply involved in organized crime.

The film ends with Michael fully transformed into the new Don Corleone—powerful, feared, and isolated—having completed his shift from reluctant outsider to ruthless mafia boss.
